ICT students have started to write in through emails inquiring on news report that SPM students will be allowed to register only 10 subjects starting from 2010 SPM exam. It is true that the Education Minister has already made the announcement. However, there are other views expressed by relevant parties like the National Union of Teaching Profession(NUTP) which proposes 12 subjects as the limit. Then there are also educational organizations which express worries that the limit of 10 subjects will affect the number of students taking up Chinese subject.

We will have to wait for the official letter on the matter. There might be changes.

If the decision on the limit of 10 subjects in SPM is final, the school will explore various options on ways students interested in ICT can sit for the subject in SPM exam. Right now, it is early to discuss on that matter.

As such, the current batch of Form 4 ICT students must remain calm and be patient. As soon as the official letter is received and the final decision is made, you will be the first one to know.

A few weeks have passed since I last wrote on the Star Rating on Jit Sin teachers’ blogs. As expected, I received a number of comments and opinions. Well, as mentioned earlier, it is not easy to put up such a rating, especially one that is supposed to be comprehensive, objective and fair. Browsing through each and every of the 200 blogs takes time and really tests your patience!

Frankly, I expect more comments and even objections! The number of feedback received reflects the number of readers who visited the teachers’ blogs. There are some disagreements which is natural, of course. Everybody has his/her own character and opinion, which is what makes the world interesting, isn’t it?

Any positive response to the rating? Well, we welcome two members of the staffs, namely Pn Agnes Lim and Miss Chong Lee Ling on board. Pn Agnes has put up some useful tips and informations for the students especially those who just sat for their SPM and STPM exams.

Bravo to Mr Tan Chin Yee and Pn Ng Yow Teng. They actively continue to put up rich information. Mr Tan’s blog has attracted 24,155 visitors at blog time. I believe most of them are students who are eagerly looking for useful information which can help in their studies and scholarship.

Of course there are others like Mr Goay Teck Chong, Pn Tan Min Min, Pn Chow Yin Looi, Mr Wong Siew Kong and many more who continue to update and improve their blogs.

What surprised me is that our blogs do catch the eyes of other schools. One school in Penang called up to enquire on the creation of the blogs after seeing the work of Jit Sin blogs.

From now on, there won’t be any more rating on the teachers’ blogs. By now, staffs, students and even the public would have some ideas as to which blogs contain information they are interested to read.

Those who have already established their names will continue to draw readers to their blogs. Others will have to put up more efforts in order to attract attention.

The number of visitors is not the objective of setting up blogs. The main objective of setting up the blogs is to provide a platform for teachers to share their view, information and provide assistance to students.

We plan to extend this platform to student bodies in this school. I will write on that in my next article.

Meanwhile, happy holiday to everybody.
